Scene outside an Unemployment Office/Soylent Green Disbursement Office, two Dopers meet…
“Say, what’s the date today, anyway?”
“Sarahday, the 9th of John”
“Weren’t you supposed to go tell Whack to take his head out of the bucket?”
“Me?”

Palin is working on her 2nd book. I know because I colored her first one,
So let’s sum up.
This book has been planned for months. It wasn’t a secret.
Yet somehow, the McCain campaign only found out about it yesterday.
Does anyone questioning the selection of Ifill really believe that? You honestly believe that the McCain campaign found out about Ifill’s book yesterday?
If you honestly believe that, then you honestly believe that the McCain campaign staff is incompentant. And who picked McCain’s incompetant staff?
But of course, that’s not what happened. You know and I know that the McCain campaign has known about this for a while, and decided to make a big stink about it the day before the debate as a way to poison the well. They could have demanded a new moderator months ago, but they didn’t. Why didn’t they?
This is a very sleazy, not to mention PATHETIC tactic. “The moderator is biased! Waaaaah!”
Come on. You know and I know and the American people know who Gwen Ifill is going to vote for. The time to get a moderator who wasn’t going to vote for Obama passed when they agreed to a black woman journalist who works for PBS.
You all are being used. The McCain campaign is perfectly happy with Gwen Ifill, and you’d know it if you’d only think about it for a minute. And this so-called controversy is entirely artificial.
I find it incredible that the McCain campaign, or its supporters, could make the straight-faced accusation that a black moderator can’t moderate a debate with a black candidate. Because we call recall how biased that white moderator was with the white candidate last time, right? Right?
They don’t say as much, no — they say it’s about the book sales. How do we know that she hasn’t written a book called “how McCain stole the election?”
Because she’s black, you see. Automatically that means she wants Obama to win; automatically it means she’s going to secretly twist a live-televised debate in Obama’s favor to pimp her book sales.
They’re just trying to lower expectations. All candidates do that before every debate. You just watch, I’m calling it now: for the 2nd presidential debate, McCain’s staff will call him the “underdog.”

Hijack: Has there been a recent thread on why it’s (for the most part) only pro-choice Roman Catholics who get labeled ‘cafeteria Catholics’?
I once called a Roman Catholic colleague (who loved to start debates with me [an atheist] on abortion) a CC because he was so loudly in favor of the death penalty, and he turned three shades of purple.
I think any worries about the moderator have been put to rest.
Ifill was clearly biased against George W. Bush. Wait, what?
For starters I was responding to a childish post from Illucidator with a real example. Not really interested in debating how much Ifill will benefit from the book. It’s reasonable to assume she will benefit to some degree if Obama wins.
I agree that McCain could have dumped her had he chosen too but it’s the job of the committee to screen the moderators and this is an obvious red flag. Ifill was put under a brighter spotlight because of it.
While I like Ifill and felt she would do a reasonable job I think the book would be a disqualifier in this case. After watching the debate I think she did a good job. But if I were a committee member I would have disqualified her.
And I was, for starters, responding to an utterly irrational premise by McGoober.
Gwen Ifills book may expect a modest return and a slight burnishing of her C.V., and that’s pretty much it. If McCain wins, no one will give a rat’s potato about Obama’s influence on black politics. If Obama wins, there will be books about Obama lying thick upon the ground, from every direction. Who’s gonna pay attention to…what’s her name again? Oh, yeah, Gwen Something or other.
She may be biased for political reasons, she may be biased because she’s warm for his form, but that she would risk her credibility for a check she could cash at McDonald’s? Please.

Knock it off.

ahem.
Mine was an honest mistake, which was the result of an uncorrected phonetic spelling. You will always be elucidator.
