Sell me an iphone

You’re correct. For whatever reason, Apple does not support Miracast, although many other devices do. I think it was a dumb decision on their part not to do so.

Eh, to you and me it was a dumb decision, but really it fits right in nicely with their philosophy of having their stuff on only their stuff as much as possible. Their proprietary or walled garden philosophy or whatever it’s called

If you’re just taking about mirroring your iPhone screen to the tv screen, you can do that with Chromecast or Fire TV Stick but you’ll need a third party app as well. Roku has native AirPlay support so screen mirroring isn’t a problem.

I disagree with SOAT’s assertion that android users “have to replace” their phones every year. I do agree the amount of bloatware on Samsung’s products is ridiculous. If you’re running a Pixel or Motorola there is minimal bloat in my experience, or even something like the Oppo line of phones.
Ultimately, if you want to run iphone, run iphone but there really isn’t anything you can’t do with one that you can’t do with Android. All my pics and music get uploaded to my NAS and are accesible by every device I own; linux desktop, Win10 laptop, linux laptop and android phone. No fuss, no muss.

Yeah, I’m not sure where that comes from. I’m sure there’s some people who DO replace their phones regularly just like there’s people who upgrade to the newest iPhone each time it comes out. And there’s people who buy a new phone because they just jammed theirs full of photos and apps and crap and have no concept of maintenance aside from “This phone is so slow now; I need a new one”. But I’ve run Android phones that were generations out of date and still worked fine and, these days, it’s common for manufacturers to guarantee at least a couple years of OS updates (and perhaps longer for security updates).

Yeah, I’m not one of those folks that changes phones often. But this pos I have now, it’s gotta go

I too see no reason to change phones often. I ran a Galaxy Note 4 (a 2014 vintage phone) through last year. I was actually still really happy with it overall, but the speakerphone mic quit working.

I’ve had no trouble with things like this running Google and Moto android phones. My lock screen just had my email address on it. (If found, please contact…) I put that there’s, and i could remove it. But i haven’t had to redo that for my last few phones, android remembered.

I use Dropbox for file sharing. Google would like me to use Google drive. Both can be accessed easily from my Mac.
