Looking for info & opinions here. I’m getting ready to put my house on the market. In the past, I’ve worked with an independant real estate agent. She’s a great lady, and I have a good relationship with her. If I were to buy a new house in the area (I’m not, I’m moving out of the area) there’s no one else I would go with.
However, five years ago when I bought my current house, I listed my old house through her. It was on the market for something like 6 months, with nary an offer. She had open houses and stuff like that, but it just didn’t sell. Finally, me and ex-Mr. Athena decided to divorce, and he moved back to that house, negating the need to sell it.
Now that I’m looking to sell another house, part of me wants to use her, but part of me hesitates. I worry that part of the reason the old house didn’t sell was because of her. Maybe not her, per se, but her because she’s an independent, and not part of the Remax/Century21/Fowler/etc name brand real estate market out here. Believe me, most houses go very quickly out here. The old house wasn’t really in a hot neighborhood or anything like that, but 180 days on the market with no bites seems a little excessive.
I know that there’s a Remax agent in my neighborhood who has sold tons of my neighbor’s houses. He sells them in 60 to 90 days.
Am I off base here? Should I just chalk up the old house not selling to it being an older house in a not-so-hot neighborhood, and go with the lady I know and like? Or should I go with the guy who seems to have a very good track record of selling houses in my neighborhood?
