Semi-urgent: Out of state checks?

I’ve got a checkbook, but have never in my life written a check. I regrettably need to go to the walk-in urgent care clinic tomorrow to make sure I have not, in fact, been walking around on a seriously injured ankle for three days now. Insurance “covers” it, with a $25 copay (which, IMO, is ridiculous. But I digress).

I’ve got no cash on me, at all. So unless they do plastic (which they may), will I mess things up hugely if I write a check to a clinic in NM, from a bank in NJ?

Will you mess up thiings: no.
Do they have to accept credit cards: no but they probably will.
Do they have to accept the check: no
Will they accept a check: probably if they don’t accept credit cards.
I’ve found very few places recently that will decline out of state checks if they
accept any checks at all

OKay. that’s reassuring. Thanks.

Worst case scenario: They will call the bank to make sure you have funds to cover the check.

Ultimately, they want to get paid.

Copays are a special deal anyway. As long as you have insurance coverage, many clinics are willing to float you the copay. On my current plan I have not been asked for a copay up front even though it says that I have a $10 co-pay right on the card. They just invoice me for it later.

Oh yeah. And I hope you are ok.

Thank you.

Sigh I’m such a product of the plastic age. Even if they’d take a credit card, I’m half-tempted to write them a check if they’ll let me, just so that I can write an actual check.
