This is a biggy - and if you are comparing to gross income, you’re going to get another 7% from not paying SS and Medicare any longer.
Retirement’s ~10 years away for me. But a few years after we moved into our current house, rates went down, we refi’ed for 15 years rather than 30 at the same monthly payment, and by the end of next year, we’ll make our last mortgage payment. So that’s one big savings now that will carry over into retirement.
We’ve got a fairly lengthy commute, which we won’t have to make anymore. And yes, we’ll be able to do things at off-peak times of day, off-peak seasons, etc., which will save more than a few bucks. And no work clothes.
That’s all I can think of for now.
