Serena Henry

This is the very talent of God Himself made flesh.

If you don’t know whom I’m talking about, then please — do whatever is necessary to arrange your schedule so that next Wednesday, you can watch Fame on NBC. Serena is that once in a generation miracle for this generation. Her soulful voice takes absolute command of the moment, stunning her audience into a state of helpless fascination. She punctuates her songs with perfect movement and expression. She owns the stage. She owns the band. She owns the audience. She makes every song she sings brand new, and infuses it with new life, raising each to a level that the artists who performed them before could only dream of achieving.

She leaves even the judges emotionally drained, commanding standing ovations routinely. Whatever happens with the show itself is no longer relevant. All that matters anymore is what happens with Serena.

If you missed her debut performance of Shaka Khan’s I’m Every Woman, then you are poorer for the loss. But if you missed last night’s performance of Bette Midler’s Wind Beneath My Wings, then you are destitute. Find a friend with TIVO, or come to our house and see this. You owe it to yourself.

For those of you who have seen her, what words have you found that approach describing the magnificent talent of this extraordinary woman?
