The fact that we got the movie at all was already a miracle. Why not two?
'cause the first miracle didn’t make them any money.
They should just make a TV series based on the movie. People would watch that, right?
Well, there was a Dungeons and Dragons 2 that aired on Sci-Fi, so there’s hope for anything, IMHO. 
The DVD isn’t out yet. The jury is, therefore, still out.
I think I can safely say that the DVD will sell well.
In fact, to follow up the post I sent too soon, I think they could make quite a bit of money if they made “mini-movie” serials of Firefly and released them direct to DVD.
What does that mean? “Even though there’s no indication of anything happening anywhere, we still thought we’d write this article just to start a rumour.”
That’s the thing. Since the movie didn’t do great, it opened here on “cineplex 8” without any tv commercials. Universal didn’t have a lot of faith in it and even at that crappy theatre (seating about 100) it was only half full on the first showing, opening night a week ago.
So even if Universal will get their money back and show a profit, it didn’t generate enough $ to justify a sequel. Let’s just be happy that we got the movie and some kind of closure.
I doubt it myself. I just don’t see the whole cast returning or Joss Whedon stopping from making movies to write a TV sequel.
I’m fairly certain everyone is signed for three films, it’s just a matter of the next two happening.
I personally don’t expect it.

Just wanted to add my “please, yes!!” to this. I was expecting the rumours, because it’s got such a following that even if there was definetly nothing going to happen, ever, and Joss had set fire to all his notes, there’d be rumours. But i reeeeeeeally want something new, even if it’s not a film.
A chunk of the cast came down to dragoncon this year and they were asked about the movies, they didn’t say anything specific but as I recall they are contracted for 3 movies if Universal takes up the option on them or some legal jargon thing… I’d like to see the show reborn damnit but I know that won’t happen. At least not with the same cast.
