Serenity: from someone who hasn't seen Firefly(WARNING:open spoilers)

Don’t forget, it opened at #1 in the UK.

I hope this movie gets a good release in Japan. I think it might be very successful there.

I’m not sure about “currently” (which it probably is), but they made an effort to get all the 9 originally aired episodes shown before the release of Serenity. I think this culminiated in a 3- or 4-episode marathon the last week before the movie. I believe that makes the last episode shown “Ariel,” and I’m not sure if they did/are going to show the episodes that didn’t air the first time around. (I’ll ask the SciFi fans here at work; they may know better.)

So, the short of it is, unless they’ll be airing the previously DVD-only episodes, I think SciFi has given the movie all the uptick in sales it’s gonna see. :frowning:

I’m fairly certain it opened at #2 and only took over #1 a few days later.

I think the big hang up on future episodes is that Whedon, rightly, won’t work with FUX again and they own the TV rights. Universal owns the rights to the movie.
Unless FUX sells the rights for the series to someone else, we won’t see Firefly back on the little screen again.
And I think that’s good. I say this as a big fan of both, but if the series came back, I think we’d all be in for a big disappointment. At this point, we’ve all deified the show, and nothing can live up to that kind of expectation.

I hope for many more movies and will be first, second and third in line.

I’m pretty sure that’s not true. When Fox first cancelled the show, they released their rights to the franchise so Joss could shop it to other networks. I suppose there might have been a time limit of this, and that the TV rights reverted to Fox when another buyer didn’t materialize, but I’m pretty sure they no longer have any claim on the show.

I’ll say it. Corpse Bride sucked. I don’t know how they went so wrong, but woah. Even the songs were crap. Especially the songs.

And on topic, I have to say, each time I see Serenity, it gets better. But I have to say, if it did come back as a TV show, I would want to see “lighter” Mal again, even though that was the Fox execs and not Joss’s vision, blah blah blah. I likes the funny.

*Serenity *was good but I’ve seen it twice and it suffered the second time around and has made me leery of seeing it a third time.

I have to agree with Jenny: gets better for me and I’m looking forward to viewing #3. I’ve conned my father, a long time western fan into seeing it this weekend.

Joss might be willing to have them produce a series but put it on another network.

You guys may be right, I’ve since found some contradictory information like:

It’s reported that Joss said in a Q&A: .

or this:

But then there’s this

and this

So who knows who’s right?! Whatever the case may be, I hate FOX for dismantling this show. And I wouldn’t be surprised if Joss doesn’t want to work with them if it can be helped.

The Sci-Fi channel is definitely airing the previously DVD-only episodes; last week they did “Trash” and this week “The Message”.
