We have two copies coming from DeepDiscountDVD.com and one from Netflix, and I may very well buy one on the way home if none of those come in the mail today. A few extra dollars I wouldn’t mind spending, and I’m sure one of my friends would appreciate a copy.

Anyone been able to watch it yet? Are the special features any good? Is it obvious that I wanted to start my own Firefly thread despite being late to the party?
There are Serenity action figures of Mal, Jayne, and a Reaver, but I don’t think they’re very good at all. Selkie has Jayne and possibly Mal, so she might be able to review them for you.
Only if you have racked up a ton of points on the Brownshirts site. I got mine through CafePress. Mine says “Kaylee…because she’s pretty” across the front, with the Serenity logo on the back. I got the wife one that says “Mal…Captain Tightpants.”
There does seem to be an awful lot of bootleg Serenity merchandise on eBay. Some of it is nifty. Who doesn’t want to get a Jayne hat for everybody on their shopping list? Or a Blue Sun shot glass? But I’d rather spend my fan dollars on stuff that supports the franchise.
Just stood in line for 20 minutes at Best Buy to get it. It wasn’t even on the New DVD display at the front of the store. Just a lonely couple of stacks on the New Releases aisle. The case says there are 20 minutes of deleted scenes and outtakes.
I actually haven’t seen it yet - I only just discovered Firefly a couple of months ago. Planning to put the kids to bed early tonight!
It was a financial flop and is being released less than three months after its theatrical debut so there’s really no reason to expect it would have any kind of special display.
I might be getting a copy for Christmas but it’s just as likely that I won’t. I honestly don’t know. If not, I’ll buy myself one next month when I have a bit more disposable income. I’m not one of the fans that believes buying mutliple copies is going to help with a sequel and I don’t know many people I would give the extras to anyway.
My local independant theatre is still showing it. I went to a session last Tuesday and the theatre was surprisingly about a third full. I think the DVD will do pretty well!
Oh yay, French audio track! I’ve been having fun watching Firefly with the French and Spanish audio tracks (I’m all the way through French and on “Out of Gas” with Spanish), because those are the two languages I’m studying and the translations and voices are so mockable. Neither translation manages many of the jokes (for example, in Jaynestown Simon’s “son of a bitch” becomes “no es posible”/“c’est pas possible,” which is not swearing and therefore ruins the joke).
I missed the series when it was on. Based on reverence of the fans I’ve encountered, (including this message board) I picked up the series dvds. I bought the movie today and watched it for the first time.
The movie was awsome. If this show comes back, in any ofrm, they have one more convert.
Now that that’s out of the way, there’s not a lot of treats on the dvd. The deleted scenes were pretty cool, and I got a kick out of Joss’ intro.
You Browncoats and Whedonites should rest assured a better version of the DVD is inevitable. It might be a year off, maybe six months, but you know we’re going to get something better than this. They just had to rush it out for the holidays, to recoup some of their losses due to lackluster box office performance. My advice: rent it, buy it as gifts for the unconverted, but hold off adding it to your own collections, or you’ll just be annoyed when a nicer edition comes out.

Proud owner of the brand new Buffy Chosen Collection (all seven seasons on 40 DVDs in one neat little box set, including one brand new disc of bonus material)
I watched it with the commentaries today and I feel let down that Joss didn’t lend credence to my assertion that the character of Book is clearly parallel to that of The Operative. Seemed to me that this is what was strongly suggested – Book’s secret was that he was that guy once upon a time, mutatis mutandis. The Operative will now, as it were, have to come to Jesus.
Are you looking forward to a better release of the movie, or for a continuation of the franchise? Because a blurb in (I believe) the latest Entertainment Weekly has an interview with Joss Whedon where he says he’s relieved to finally have closure with “Firefly” so he can stop working on it and move on to other projects. Sounded like he’s done with the franchise.
