Serenity- the DVD is out today! [Warning: contains SPOILERS]

Well, the purpose of that link was just to point out how high the movie & the TV show in Amazon’s rankings. I got this DVD, and I’m sure I’ll pick up whatever special edition they’ll come out with later (assuming there’s actually more content*).

*-Apparently there’s a “Special Edition” of Not Another Teen Movie in which they did nothing more than insert the deleted scenes into the movie.

Australia gets, in addition to the special features already mentioned:
[ul]
[li]A Filmmakers Journey - Journey with Joss from Script to Screen (exclusive to Australian DVD)[/li][li]Joss Whedon Q&A Session - Filmed at Fox Studios in Sydney (exclusive to Australian DVD)[/li][li]Extended Scenes (exclusive to Australian DVD)[/li][li]Take a Walk on Serenity - Cast and Crew take us on a special tour of the Serenity ship (exclusive to Australian DVD)[/li][li]The Green Clan - Expose on Cinematographer Jack Green and his team (exclusive to Australian DVD)[/li][/ul]
But it isn’t released until February.

I’m curious as to what more you could want. It’s got commentary, deleted scenes, even a blooper reel. What more is there except fluff? I loved the film, but it doesn’t seem an epic enough production to warrant LOTR-like complete documentary coverage.

A friend is buying me Serenity for Christmas, so I didn’t get it today. I’m trying to decide if I should get a copy to give to someone.

Probably not. I don’t have a lot of disposable income, and I’ve already bought two sets of the series. One for me and Mr. Lissar and one for my inlaws, who have never seen it. If they love it they’ll be my ninth and tenth converts in one month. I should get a Jayne hat or a special badge or something for that.

Thanks for the Joss comment, Aesiron.

Just watched it again.

I’ll spoiler-box, until a mod (hopefully) comes along and changes the title…

I’d only seen two episodes by the time the movie came out… it was enough that I knew I’d want to contribute to the box office figures, but not really enough that the loss of a character or two really affected me. This time, though, I’ve seen all the eps a few times and I really did tear up at “I am a leaf on the wind…”

I bought it today. I just watched the blooper reel, and man is that funny.

My favorite part (don’t read the spoiler if you haven’t seen it)

When Mal’s ordering everyone to prep the ship to look like a Reaver ship. Nathan Fillion changes the script something like this (I don’t remember the exact wording right now) -

Mal: “Wash, Zoe, you take them bodies and tie them to the front of the ship. Shepherd Book was our friend, so put him front and center - we should honor him. Kaylee, that kid that died - he looked just like baby Jesus. Get him, we need a hood ornament. And Jayne, stop stealing their shit!”

I think the exact quote is: “Put Shepherd Book front and center; he was our friend, we should honor him. Kaylee, find that kid you like that’s taking a dirt nap with Baby Jesus, we’ll need a hood ornament. And Jayne, try not to steal too much of their shit!”

And yes, that outtake left me howling. Soooooooooooo wrong, yet sooooooooo good. Nathan Fillion is a GOD.

That was awesome. This gag reel is much funnier than even the extended gag reel for the show.

And I love how, with every screwup, all Jewel can do is double over in laughter.

Totally anecdotal of course, but I tried to find it at my local Wal-Mart (only place to pick up a DVD between home and office) and there wasn’t a copy left.

Had the girlfriend stop by Target, Best Buy, and a second Wal-Mart while she was doing her Christmas shopping. Everyone else was sold out except for Wal-Mart #2, and to get a widescreen version she had to buy a Serenity/Hulk two-pack.

So, it’ll be interesting. Maybe Serenity will help studios realize that direct DVD release doesn’t need to be the same as direct-to-video.

I just watched the outtakes without looking at the spoiler – but it was pretty obvious which one was appalling but funny.

Haven’t watched the actual movie on the DVD yet. The box says “Unrated”; what’s in the movie that I didn’t see in the theater? Never mind; I’ll see for myself.

I thought I should probably drop in here, given my screen-name. I’m pretty sure the soon-to-be-Mrs. Wash has bought the DVD for me for Christmas. Unfortunately, as I’m in the UK and she’s in the US, I won’t get my grubby little mitts on it until January 12th when I go back.

Ah well, something to look forward to, I suppose.

I mean besides seeing future-Mrs Wash. Sheesh, can’t slip anything passed you guys.

There’s an outtake in which the leathery top Inara wears near the end snaps.

OK, not really.

To me, it seems like there were several edits and transition different from the theatrical release. Nothing big, but enough to think, “Hey, neat.” I could be misremembering, though.

Aren’t you supposed to be, yaknow, dead?

This is why we need spoiler warnings in thread titles. I just got the DVD today, but haven’t watched it yet. Well, at least now I won’t be surprised.

I was proud of myself, managing to stay spoiler-free all this time, not having been able to watch it in the theaters.

Everyone, please box your spoilers until the title of the thread is changed to include a spoiler warning!

To do so, replace the {} with is the following:

{spoiler}Darth Vader is Malcolm Reynolds’ father{/spoiler}

Great. Now you tell me.

I don’t know if this counts, but I know that Josh Whedon did a comic book series that takes place between the series and the movie.

:frowning:

I was hoping the correct answer was going to be naked… any of them.

My apologies. I thought that everyone who had wanted to see the movie already did.

Got the DVD and watched the movie last night, with and without the commentary.

I have a question about one of the final scenes.

At the “cemetery”, what’s the object on the stone that Jewel is standing next to? It kinda looks like a busted rocket ship.

Whedon did a great job with the commentary. I watched the deleted scenes and thought all of them should have been left in, but his explanations for deleting them made sense.
