Serial killer with just one victim?

Does anyone recoginize this plot? If it wasn’t a dream, it was from an scifi anthology sort of show like the Twilight Zone etc.

So, it’s like this: There’s a serial killer on the loose, and there are no leads. The odd part is that something keeps happening to the bodies of the victims, but only one person notices that they are disappearing post-autopsy & burial. This person investigates and eventually figures out something very odd: despite the varied appearences of the “victims” there is in fact only one victim at all, being murdered over and over.

In the end it turns out that the victim was some sort of immortal shape-shifting creature that decided to be the victim to spare real people from the serial killer.

Ring any bells?

Nope, but I would love to read it/see it. Sounds fascinating! I know netflix as a lot of outerlimit dvds, might it be from outer limits? One of those type of shows?

My first thought was “we all gotta start somewhere”, but it sounds like something out of perhaps DR. WHO or some other altered timeline sci-fi.

Not Doctor Who. They tended to stay away from serial killer plots – the killers were doing it for a reason (power, money, etc.).

There was something like this on The Dresden Files, but I can’t find online plot summaries to confirm it. Maybe it was the Soul Beneficiary episode?

That episode seemed to be about someone being brought back to life by black magic, and kind of seems like it wasn’t their idea (honestly, I stopped paying close attention by that point in the series, but this description jives with what I remember of it). Whatever I’m thinking of was voluntary, and not a person in the end anyway. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

This show might not exist, as I do have some strangely complex dreams. Yesterday I dreamed that Dorothy Hill was both my recently deceased paternal grandmother and a children’s book author. During the dream the family granted permission for the stories to be translated to the silver screen and I “watched” a cartoon movie made of one of her stories involving a demon asking to have duplicates of himself made, then getting his comeuppance (from God) when he broke his promise to only do good things with his clones instead of tormenting humans… While awake I don’t even know where I heard Hill’s name before to incorporate it into the dream.
