I’m not afraid to say that I do associate the term “gang banger” with black people. Early gangster rap by groups such as NWA, Ice-T, and The Geto Boys used this term in their music a lot. They were black people rapping about black gangs, so thus the association for me. I do realize that the term has become generalized to include gang membersof other races, particularly Hispanics.
Must be a cultural thing then - or perhaps the meaning is different over in the US.

Along those lines when I think serial killer I think of someone white. Just like Chris rock said “Kicked and old lady down the stairs for her welfare check, probably black, Killed and is using their eyes for poolballs, probably white”

Does it help if we clarify to say that “gang-bangers” have nothing to do with group sex? It’s merely a common term for a member of a street gang.
The distinction in Chris Rocks words is between murder for gain and murder for kicks.
The OP asks about murder for kicks, and the disproportionate number of white males who commit these crimes.

Science aside, our culture often calls an act one thing if a white kid does it (“Attention Deficit Disorder”) and another if a black kid does it (“Disruptive behavior”; black kids are seldom diagnosed with ADD) and different motives are imputed to identical behaviors.
There are plenty of black spree killers and mass murderers; I doubt the underlying motivations are all that different.
BTW, Washington DC was terrorized a few years back by a black man with a shotgun, fired at random bystanders out his pickup truck window. That guy favored a particular neighborhood (Adams Morgan section of 16th St). When the current “Sniper” killer is found, it will be interesting to contrast the two.
Serial killers TEND to kill their own race. As examples, Ted Bundy killed white women. John Wayne Gacy killed white boys. Black serial killers usually kill other blacks. This also applies to serial rapists, and there is some overlap between the killers and rapists.
So if you have a crime where the victims are all, say, Asian, then the odds favor an Asia perpetrator.
It’s never a 100%, though - Jeffrey Dahmer killed non-whites. In his case, it was a delibrate ploy - he knew about the “serial killers kill their own race” and choose his victims in part to throw the trail off. (The fact they were poor and homosexual also made them less likely to be missed, and less likely for the crimes to be pursued). There was a serial rapist in Chicago a couple years back that targeted only Asian women who was, himself, black - but it seem he’d lived a long time in the Philipines, and a Philopin ex-wife, and the divorce with her (and probably a bunch of other stuff) triggered his rape spree in a bizarre way to “get even” 
When the victims are mixed-ethnicity, however, all bets are off. In which case, white folks being the majority in the US, the odds favor white. At least until other clues roll in.
Richard Rameriz aka “The Night Stalker” was a hispanic serial killer back in the mid-80’s in Los Angeles.
