The Madoff ‘series’ which just popped on Netflix was, imho, more of a four hour documentary chopped into four blocks.

Madoff: The Monster of Wall Street Effectively a four hour movie chopped into 1 hour sequences, this documentary is a decent look @ Madoff and his crimes. It largely blames the SEC for allowing this to continue, however, it also notes that the Republicans have done nothing but gut financial oversight since Reagan. On Netflix.
