Cheap Ameri-Chinese is among the few carryout options for low-carb dieters. Stir fried meat & veggies is pretty good if you watch the sweet and/or starchy sauce. My own go-to is pork egg foo young, no rice, no gravy*. Also, since you mentioned chicken wings, see if your local place offers some from the appetizer menu. All of my places do and they’re quite good: dusted with 5 spice and lightly battered. Cheap, too.
*I was once corrected by a cashier at a Chinese place after I called it sauce.
He’s been pretty clear. He wants to get his blood pressure under better control, not get winded going up stairs and not have his buttons pop off.
And there are lots of ways to get there some that work better for one and not another. Exercise has to be part of the plan for those goals. If there is “one question” then the best one question might be which could he see himself sticking with for a long haul including a period when the scale stops telling him he is losing weight for weeks at a time.
As mentioned by others, porridge is always a healthy option for breakfast** 4kad** and you can add anything you like to it: butter and coconut sugar; mixed berries; stewed apple; banana and cream; nuts and seeds…you name it. Forget the instant microwave stuff - plain ol’ cheap as chips (that you’re not having anymore) rolled oats is the go. Just soak it overnight in some water and it’ll take literally a few minutes to cook. Not only will it keep you satisfied, it’s also better for your gut flora than commercial probiotics. Or do bacon and eggs if you like - just don’t do the toast.
I second all who suggest low carb as the way to go. Opt for fresh foods rather than prepackaged. Grill, bake, bbq or steam rather than fry; go naked instead of crumbed; drop root vegetables, pasta, white flour products and bread. (Other than the occasional slice of wholemeal, seedy stuff.) Consider all bottled drinks and ice cream poison. Become a friend of avocado, almond butter, almond milk, greek yoghurt and qark. Eat good quality meat and fish. Learn how to make pesto and salmoriglio. Find the place that makes kickarse falafels.
Make lunch a small feast rather than a sandwich or a burger - give yourself a selection of tasty stuff: olives, cheese, grilled chicken wings or drumsticks, some kind of salad, or maybe grilled eggplant and capsicum.
You’ll find soon enough that the less crap you eat, the less crap you want to eat. So those desserts you’re always wanting will become a distant memory. Sugar begets sugar. And it’s pretty much in everything you buy - so learn all the bullshit names they give sugar and salt, read the labels, and be shocked by the high crap content before you put it back on the shelf.
Never underestimate the power of simply moving around, and get used to thinking about the food you’re going to eat way before you’re hungry.
Go for it! It’s easier than it sounds and you’ll be feeling more energetic and less cumbersome sooner than you think.
There is lots of sugar in something like an Oats and Honey Granola bar. While there’s a decent amount of whole grains in it, its not really that much better than a snickers bar.
plain oatmeal with fresh berries, plain yogurt with berries and nuts, cottage cheese with almonds or walnuts, & hardboiled eggs are all decent, filling options. Try to limit sweeteners.
I weighed myself on 1/23 and was 308 pounds. Since then I cut out grease, lots of sodium, drunk more water, didn’t eat dessert, or any junk food and when I weighed myself today it said 298.4?
I have a digital scale. Do you think that is possible in only 2 weeks?
Absolutely you can lose over 10 lbs in 2 weeks. I found the most dramatic loss was early on and then it seemed to level out after a couple months. Still lost weight but just not as quickly. Just cutting out the sodium probably accounted for most of that due to water weight.
