Severe reaction to mosquito bite

Is it possible for someone to be so allergic to mosquito bites that the suffer a very severe reaction, such as anaphylactic shock?

I’m just curious. My husband, when he gets bitten, gets a little teeny bump that slightly itches and goes away within a few hours. I, on the other hand, get huge welts that last for days and nearly drive me insane with the itching. Is there a next level for people who are extremely allergic? If there isn’t, why not? Why wouldn’t a mosquito be able to produce that reaction when something like a bee does?

Just a WAG guess here, but perhaps it has to do with what the ‘venom’ is for. Mosquito saliva is designed to keep your blood anticoagulated as it travels up the…uh…mouth of the mosquito. Only people who are allergic get itchy (IIRC). Bees and such inject a real live venom - somehting that is DESIGNED to cause harm to whatever or whoever it stings.

The body’s immune system is complex. And endlessly fascinating.
