My girlfriend recently turned me on (heh) to Sex Nerd Sandra, who does a free weekly podcast. Sort of like Dr. Ruth for the modern age. I had thought Dan Savage had that covered, but Sandra is making a niche for herself too as a sex educator.
I listen more for entertainment than anything else, although I have found myself learning something too. Sandra comes across as really perky, forthright and likable. My GF and I both feel as if she’s one of our friends now and frequently say things like, “Well Sandra was talking about such-and-such the other day…” as if we know her personally.
I haven’t tried any of the other Nerdist podcasts yet. Any recommendations?
Well, my wife’s a big fan of the main Nerdist podcast, which is a pop culture and comedy interview show.
I tried Sandra, but it didn’t quite click. Maybe it’s just because I’m interested in sexuality and have read a lot on the subject (both academic and…anecdotal), but it all seemed a little too 100-level for me. I have trouble listening to an educational series if I genuinely think I know as much about the subject as the host. It also doesn’t help that, voice-and-tone-wise, she reminds me terribly of a coworker who always comes off as smug and vaguely condescending.
That said, if you’re hearing new info on there or it’s helping you converse with your SO, that’s a good thing.
You Made it Weird w Pete Holmes is a Nerdist podcast and quite enjoyable. It’s an interview chat show like Marc Maron’s WTF! only friendlier (he jokingly calls it What the Heck.)
