Sex offenders, according to the news anyway, are not allowed near children. Could one set up a colony for sex offenders where children are not allowed?
They did in the second X-Files movie, but there was also a head transplant in it…
The city of Miami set up such a colony back in 2006.
Well, there are difficulties involved, but one could scale the idea down. For example, one could construct a very large building capable of housing a number of sex offenders. Locking mechanisms and trained personnel would keep the sex offenders confined to this very large building, whilst simultaneously keeping most members of the public outside. Something like that might work, though it would be hideously expensive. And I fear there would be a temptation to put all sorts of people in this building who probably wouldn’t deserve to be there. Social conservatives often get annoyed with drug users, for example, but it would be a shame if that led to drug users being sent to live in a very large building against their will.
Fortunately, it’s all hypothetical.
