RS story here:
I knew that he discovered and signed the Ramones and the Talking Heads for his Sire label, but the list of other important punk and alternative acts he supported is impressive. And of course Madonna. My favorite Lou Reed album, “New York” from 1989, was also released on Sire. And which other rock impresario has their own song? RIP.
Belle And Sebastian - Seymour Stein
He found some great bands.
RIP.
Sire was also the American label for some great British bands of the era; The Smiths’ records came out through Sire.
I’m ashamed to say that almost* the only thing I knew about Seymour Stein was the Belle and Sebastian song. So thanks for posting the article - an impressive and important career.

* - “almost” because there’s another song which I’m sure includes an unflattering reference to him, but it eludes me for the moment.
