Shake Girl is a 224-page graphic novel based on the true story of a Cambodian karaoke performer named Tat Marina who was the target of an “acid attack” after she had an affair with a married man. Throwing acid into someone’s face is a popular form of revenge in Cambodia, especially in love triangles.
Thanks for that - I’ve bookmarked it for later reading.
Wow… that was enthralling. I figured I’d look at a few pages & finish it later. Nope. I was stuck till the end.
That was incredible. Thank you for sharing that link.
That story almost brought me to tears. Incredible story.
Looking at some of the before and after pictures really did bring me to tears. The story doesn’t really convey just how badly injured she was by the attack.
I read the whole thing even though I didn’t expect any superheroes. It was a pretty sad story.

I got sucked in by it at work, thanks for posting!
I wonder if I should have posted this in Cafe Society. If the mods want to move it, feel free.
Me too - though I never put things like that down. A very sad but engrossing story, and I liked the artwork.
Siam Sam, I’ll move this for you.
Thought I would revive this thread – I don’t think it’s a zombie until six months – to show that acid attacks continue to be common in Cambodia. The latest one to make the news is here.
This is a phenomenon that seems unique to Cambodia. This simply does not occur in Thailand, and I’ve not heard of it in Laos or Vietnam. Don’t piss off a Cambodian!
Thanks for sharing. There’s not much to say.
