Shakespeare production, please help me ID

I was in college in the late 80’s and during one of my Shakespeare courses we had a weekly or maybe every other week viewing of a production of the play we were reading at that time. They were produced by a English troupe. We found it humorous that they same five or six really good actors would don wigs or beards from one production to another. But they were actually very well produced I thought. I would really like to figure out if these are available on DVD, but have not been able to find them.

Here is all I know:

  • 1 troupe, multipul plays
  • English actors
  • NOT the late 70s-early 80s BBC productions
  • the filming had that definite look of being filmed on a soundstage (soap opera quality lighting, though I seem to remember some outside scenes)
  • no actors that I recognized at the time from a high profile movie career

Dang, that’s not much to go on, but if anybody can sleuth it out, I know the Dope can.

Do you have any idea which plays they were?

If you look through the IMDB listing for William Shakespeare, that will probably be your best bet. One thing I see that perhaps could be it is something called, Play of the Month, which wasn’t exclusively Shakespeare, but they did do eight plays between 1967 and 1975.

It was a class on the comedies so, Twelfth Night, As You Like It, Much Ado About Nothing.

Gosh, looking at those it doesn’t seem to have enough overlap of leading actors. And looking at photos of the leads, it isn’t stirring memories – but it’s hard to find photos from the correct decade, then adjust for custume/makeup.

But thanks, Sage Rat, I hadn’t thought to enter William Shakespeare at IMDB.
