When the pump motor starts the inductive load sucks a lot of current and the lights dim. Can I put a capacitor across the motor?
Putting a capacitor acros the motor will alter the power factor of your load (the ratio of apparent power to real power), but will have little effexct on the total current draw. I think you can request a higher amperage service from the power cpompany, but I’ve never been involved with that, so I have no details to offer.
Mine is run through a 60amp disconnect w/about 10 or 12 g. copper and a double 30amp 220V breaker in the main box. Never a flicker. Although gramps used to…he’d come hollering to turn the water off.
