Shameless Whining About My Night in ER

{{{olives}}}

Now go back to bed.

I’ll be keeping you in my thoughts, olives.

{{olives}}

What you’re describing sounds like the symptoms my husband had right before he was hospitalised with gastric ulcers, both times.

Here’s hoping they find it’s something easily fixed.

({(olives)})

I’m wincing in sympathy here.

Sounds like you and hubby need a store of emergency books for the car. Hie thee to the Cranbury Bookworm, not far from you down Rte 130. Best used bookstore I’ve ever been to, and I’m seriously considering making a pilgrimage sometime soon. Not that I need more books.

What am I saying? :eek: Of course I need more books. I always need more books!

You live in New Jersey and you didn’t go to Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital? They have a great diagnostician there. He’s a real jerk though.

We pretty much just went to the closest hospital we could find. We pass it every day on the way home from work, so it was the obvious choice. I didn’t know about Princeton-Plainsboro… will have to keep that in mind.

My doctor’s office was closed today, and might be tomorrow, so hopefully I’ll get in for Friday. My husband bought me a bunch of sick foods like saltine crackers and ginger-ale. I just slept another 5 hours but unfortunately am still very ill. I don’t feel better at all, so I may have to put everything on hold next week and just spend the time getting to the bottom of this.

Ugh, sorry to hear you’re so sick, Olives. About twelve years ago, I went through several months with a lot of the same symptoms you’re describing, and it was hellish. There were weeks when all I could eat was Jello–if that. So I know what you’re going through. I hope they figure out something soon and you get some relief.

Sorry. It was a joke. Princeton-Plainsboro is the hospital in the program House.

:smack: You’re the fourth person to recommend I see the House doctor today. I’ve never watched that show, but I think I’m going to have to start.

Oops, missed this. As a person who loves both books and worms, I am extremely excited to learn this place exists, and as soon as I’m feeling better I think I’m going to ask my chauffeur to assist me in my own pilgrimage.

Olives, hon, here’s all New Year’s greetings and hopes that you get better.

Good luck to you, dear. Get well soon.

If I can add my story - My husband, two days before Christmas, experienced a severe pain in his lower left abdomen. It faded away some and he waited till after Christmas to see the doctor. We were in the office from 1 p.m. till 3 p.m. He drank some white stuff and we waited some more for a cat scan. We waited 5 till 7 p.m. for the results. Results: nothing! No idea. He got some antibiotics anyway and had pain on and off this week. Last couple of days, feels fine. It was like something got twisted, or a muscle pulled. A heating pad helped a lot. We don’t know what the problem was, or if it’ll come back. It was agonizing, just the most stressful thing, I just about have a nervous breakdown assuming that This Is It, something fatal.

Not unless you want to frighten yourself. I love House, but he misdiagnoses things for the first 48 minutes of the show, until some random comment by a co-worker or a patient (“there are no blueberries in my blueberry muffin!”) cause him to have a Eureka! moment and solve the mystery.

Or, as AHunter3 so beautifully described…

I do hope the doctors can figure out what’s going on. Don’t let them blow you off, either…just because the tests are coming back negative doesn’t mean there’s nothing wrong. It just means they haven’t found it yet.

Oh, poor you! That stinks.

Has Celiac Disease been ruled out? If that’s the case, Saltines would be making it worse.

One of my friends had the same symptoms as you described. It turned out that she had big stone in her gull bladder. (i’m not sure- is that covered by the ultrasound?)

Yeah, the CAT scan and ultrasound showed that my gallbladder is okay. Celiac disease I believe was ruled out by the blood tests.

I’ve finally caught up on sleep. I don’t feel fantastic, but I feel better. The doctor’s office is closed today so I will probably have to wait until tomorrow. I am definitely not letting this go. We are going to find out what’s wrong as soon as possible.

When my mother had gall stones, her doctors were convinced that she was fine because none of the tests showed any problems with her gall bladder at all. They sent her home and she sat around for 3 or 4 more days, trying to work while in the kind of excruciating pain it sounds like you’re experiencing.
Not to worry you! My point is mainly: don’t let someone tell you that because they can’t find the cause of your pain, you’re probably fine. Sounds like your doctors are conscientious, though.

All my hopes that you find the cause soon! {{{olives}}}

Hugs to you, olives. Definitely not a good day and I hope you feel better very soon.

If they tell you it’s lupus, look them straight in the eyes and deadpan “it’s never lupus.” :smiley:

Best of luck, hope you find out what ails you soon!!!

Just out of curiosity, have you had a CCK/HIDA scan done? It’s a test for gallbladder function, rather than stones. A low ejection rate was what was causing my severe pain and nausea.
