I’ve seen some boxes with instructions for it
I hope you don’t have to turn it over.
“Za?” Really?
That’s it, you’re banned.
Urban Dictionary suggests that anyone using this word deserves a kick in the nuts.
Come on, pizza is such a long and difficult word to type.
I’ve only grilled th piz section and that za section together, so YMMV.
Generally I’ll preheat the gas grill with a large cast iron pan in the center. When it’s hot, I’ll place a frozen pizza on the warming rack above the cast iron pan it and check frequently. There is a fair bit of variation in the cooking time, but I don’t heat up the house and I like the way it turns out.
Maybe OT, but if you have pizza dough, it works fantastic on the grill. Just roll it out, put it on the grill for a couple minutes until the bottom is browned, then* turn it over and put toppings on the browned side*, and put it back on the grill to brown the still-raw side.

I have not tried this, but I have just obtained a new grill and it is on my list.
Tastes like az.
Home Run Inn, which is a Chicago pizza chain, also makes a line of frozen pizzas (I’ve read, though I can’t confirm, that they’re the top-selling frozen pizza in the Chicago market). In the last year or two, they’ve begun promoting grilling their pizzas – I’ve seen a number of billboards during the summer for it, and they even have a dedicated web page for the concept, with instructions for both gas and charcoal grills.
From their standpoint, I imagine it makes sense – I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that sales of frozen pizzas goes down during the summer, as some consumers don’t want to turn on the oven (and heat up the house).
All I can say is that nearly 30 years after reading that ‘za’ was a hot new slang term for pizza, I’ve finally actually seen the word used by someone. I’ve still never heard it spoken.
You don’t know PSXer very well, do you? I wouldn’t count this as a veritable sighting of the word “za.”
My sister and I call pizza “za” because we’ve never actually heard anyone in real life say that and we think it’s funny.
Looks like this thread is going to turn into a discussion of the word “za.”
You think someone who won’t take the time to type pizza is going to actually make pizza?
I broke a pizza stone on a charcoal grill once. I think I didn’t spread the coals out before putting the stone on.
We did occasionally use the term in college. About 30 years ago, in fact.
I bet grilled za is so delicious that you’ll want to eat the hole thing.
I say za sometimes.
I don’t usually grill it, though. I’m a crazy spendthrift who uses his AC.
Check it, bra, you warm your grill 'til it’s toasty then toss your frozen za on the grate and then just chill for, like, 8 songs worth on the Bieb’s swaggy new album. Dude, then you pull it off, slice-and-dice, and chow down.
No one who would say brah or swaggy would listen to Justin Bieber. Kanye would have been a better choice.
