Speaking of which, there’s a very good chance that no illustrator has ever executed an image of a Mercotan. I plugged “Qadgop the Mercotan” into Google Images. Most of the hits led to boards.straightdope.com (and I suspect that clicking on them would lead to threads in which Dr. Mercotan had either posted or to links that he had posted himself). Scrolling down the page reveals some pics that are quite amusing to think of as being affiliated with that name.
I particularly enjoyed the one of the two black bears on horseback.
Twickster - I see her in my mind as thin, shortish steel-gray hair, glasses, pencil behind the ear.
WhyNot - reminds me of my mom (yes this is a compliment). Earth mother type, long hair, ready smile.
Oakminster - tall, broad shoulders, looks like a biker but in a suit.
