My first job out of college was at a counseling agency where the clinical director and the executive director were married to one another.
This was fine when they were getting along well, and hell on earth when they weren’t. The executive director was prone to fits of rage which the staff were supposed to dismiss as “temporary mood fluctuations due to PMS.” She was also providing counseling to people despite having no counseling background.
I was 20 years old, so it really didn’t occur to me to tell her to shove it when she did things like scream at me in front of all of the staff for forgetting to order Diet Coke for the break room.
The Board of Directors eventually got enough complaints about her that they asked for her resignation.
