Well, I finally went through my camera's memory chips today, ditched all the bad exposures, and exported and backed up all the good ones. While organizing the "keep" pile, I figured I'd throw a few up on the ol' Photobucket for folks to peruse.
A particular favorite photography subject of mine is nature, and especially wildlife . I recently visited Bald Head Island, North Carolina, a place teeming with various life forms, and had quite a good time working on my camera skills. Among the "locals" I saw:
a flock of white ibises roosting in the trees over a pond. This photo only shows a few of the dozens that were in the same vicinity. Amazing.
…and why were the ibises roosting in the trees? Why, I have no idea, really.
Has anyone else photographed any interesting wildlife where they live or visit? If so, let’s see it!
(P.S.: my camera info, in case anyone cares: Nikon D70 DSLR with 70-300 mm f4-5.6 zoom lens)
It’s not earth-shattering or anything, but we had a snapping turtleto come up on the patio last weekend. And we have geese hanging around all the time.
Jennyrosity, you colorful beetles are, i believe, a variety of Cotton Harlequin Bug. I used to see them quite a bit growing up in Sydney. They have a variety of different colors and patterns. Some are orange and black, some are iridescent like yours, and there are other color patterns too.
And your spider is most definitely not a huntsman, but an orb weaving spider of some sort. Australian huntsman spiders are, as the name suggests, hunting spiders, and they don’t build the sort of webs tat your spider is sitting in.
