Sharon Batts: ''Dear Mr. Jesus''

This is more of a GQ, but since it’s tangentially entertainment, I thought I’d save the GQ mods the trouble of booting it here.

Anyway. . .

This was a popular song in 1988 or so, and struck chord possibly because it happened around the same time of the Lisa Steinberg murder. It was recorded by an evangelical Christian group out of Bedford TX (Fort Worth area), called “PowerSource.” On this song, a child named Sharon Batts sang lead.

The question: What is Sharon Batts doing today?

Hmmm… I doubt any of these are the “correct” Sharon Batts, but it’s remotely possible that she is:

  1. Being charged with stealing from 9-11 charities…Sharon Batts?

  2. Sharing cruel comments coworkers have made about her sensitivity to chemicals in the workplace…Sharon Batts #2?
But apparently, as of September 2000 she was living in Texas and helping her mother man a booth at some fair, selling air purifiers: The REAL Sharon Batts!

Ughhh… Thanks for bringing back the memory of that song!

I think I’m going into insulin shock just from the memory.

I was actually moderately religious when I first heard that song, but I started snickering at the first overly done strain and by the time she got to “please don’t tell my daddy that mommy hits me too” I was literally on the floor clutching my stomach. Not even attending a midnight showing of MOMMY DEAREST surrounded by drag queens holding wire hangers can match it for camp and melodrama.

Living in a belfry?

I never heard of that song? What was it?

Guin,

Here are the lyrics
As you read them, imagine them being sung in a little girl’s oh-so-cute voice, backed up by choir.
So sappy and glurgy it casued ADD in children.
