Sharp Teeth

I just now finished reading Sharp Teeth, by Toby Barlow, and it is hands down the best werewolf story I’ve ever read. Hell, it’s one of the best modern fantasies I’ve ever read as well.

When I opened the cover and saw it was written in free verse, I confess I almost put it down–generally I don’t like free verse and I find it distracting and hard to read, and I was looking for something where the writing would distract me.

No worries. The free verse somehow actually makes the story more compelling.

Has anyone else here read it? If you haven’t, and if you like the same kinds of books I like (this has dashes of Elmore Leonard, Tim Powers, Neil Gaiman, Ovid, Dean Koontz), track it down!

(there have been a few references to it over the last year and a half, but I think it deserves a thread of its own).

…or maybe it didn’t deserve a thread of its own.

Has nobody read it, then?

Just the one bump to make extra sure.
