At home: Safety razor.
When in South Asia: Straight razor (although I let a barber wield it lest I should kill myself).
I use a safety razor at home and a cartridge razor when traveling.
Strangely enough, neither of those appear in the poll. And neither does disposable razors, which, I suspect are overwhelmingly the most common these days. However, “straight razor” is on the list, and those are usually only used by professional barbers.
Very odd poll.
The Fusion Pro-Glide is not a safety razor. It’s a cartridge razor.
I use a 2 blade Atra style razor. I say style, because you can’t find HTG Atra blades anymore, and have to rely on off-brands.
Yeah, I’m a dinosaur.
I figured that’s what you meant so I voted accordingly.
Currently, I use an electric razor once or twice a week. My facial hair grows very slowly and after a week of not shaving I only look like a normal guy after 2-3 days of not shaving.
Back when I was in the military, I used an electric every morning.
In boot camp, I was only allowed safety razors, which I hated.
Sensor Excel, but only because it’s Gillette, so “Fuck everything”
I’m always amused at how prescient that article was.
:rolleyes:Cartridge razors *are *safety razors. *All *that is required to be a safety razor is that the blade be covered except for the edge.
Well, right back at you. Using the same term for a cartridge razor and a safety razor isn’t specific enough to be informative. Safety razors, cartridge razors, and disposable razors are different enough to require distinctive names.
By “Straight razor”, I assume you mean safety razor.
I use a Mach 3. I like how it’s hinged, and almost never cut myself with it, unlike every other razor out there.
I’ve never gotten a good shave with an electric razor.
That’s just a matter of technique, buddy. A very light touch, and a shallow angle between the blade and your skin is where it’s at.
I use the cheapo yellow/white Bic disposables about half the time, and the other half, I use one of my old-school vintage double-edged razors. Mom saved them from my great grandfather, grandfather and father, so now I use them.
I may be wrong, but if you’ve not shaven in 46 years, there is a good chance the electric and disposable razor technology has caught up with your particularly difficult beard type.
I would prefer to use a safety razor or current Gillette style with replaceable head.
I usually end up using a beard trimmer and just give myself a 5 o’clock shadow, because I will have one in 3 hours anyway if I do go to the trouble.
