Today I tried my suits for the wedding of a friend, which is this Saturday. They still fit - barely. I can wear them, but they’re right at the edge; strained waist, tight in the arse, squeezed tummy when I sit, and all the unpleasant symptoms that mean I skipped gym a bit too often (bear with me, I got injured).
Anyway, is there any way I can lose, say, one or two centimeters of waistline during the course of this week? Any suggestions on strategies?
Eat only when you’re hungry, and only a few handfuls of low-calorie foods at a time. Eat until your stomach isn’t growling but no more. Fruits, veggies, few bites of chicken or fish…
Drink lots of water. Exercise for an hour or more to get both aerobic and anaerobic benefits.
Obviously this isn’t good for long-term, but I doubt it will do much harm to your body for a week. I’ve done these types of caloric restrictions before and been fine.
Obligatory disclaimer: I’m not a doctor, nutritionist or anywhere remotely qualified to dispense medical advice. YMMV
Do u know how slimming teas and herbal weight loss stuff work?
Simple.
When u start dieting or whatever, you can always rapidly loose a bit of water from your body, dropping your weight anywhere from 2 to 5 Kgs in a matter of days.
This loss is easy and is often taken in by people as proof of effectiveness of whatever tea or herbal they are swallowing.
Howver, the waistlines are made up of tough adipose tissues that are very efficient in storing away all ur extra calories in form of Lipids/fatty oil - reducing that will take much much more effort and time, and face the fact - you cannot hope to reduce it in course of a week or so.
First you will have to balance ur intake and expenditure, make intake less than whatever calories u spend, so that the body will look to its stores to make up for the deficiency in intake, this will take along time to kick in.
Hey, I used to wrestle. It’s definitely possible to lose enough weight to physically make a difference to your appearance in a week, you just have to be committed to it. Eat very little - an apple or a can of tuna for your meal - and run your ass off on a treadmill or in place, taking care to rest often and not over-train. You should be sweating hard. This combination of eating little and exercising a lot will result in you losing at least a few pounds in a week.
A co-worker just mentioned a Sauna for 5 hours. Not sure if it will work, but I would assume you should be in relatively good health to begin with to attempt such a thing.
It might also help to not skimp on sleep. When I was very unfit I used to weigh 1 or even 1 1/2 kg less in the morning compared to before going to bed (without any toilet visit between the two weightings, of course). Now that I am fitter the effect isn’t noticeable.
I came in to recommend Atkins as well. The first time I did it, I lost 5 pounds the first week, a total of 15-20 pounds overall, and I still do it when I want to shed a few pounds.
Don’t listen to the doomsayers who claim that Atkins is unhealthful. It’s as healthful (or not) as you make it. All you’re doing is cutting out bread, pasta, and sugar. That does NOT translate to a 100% red meat diet, and I don’t know where people get that idea. Eat all the chicken, fish and vegetables your heart desires. Most store-bought sauces, marinades, dressings, etc., actually don’t have huge amounts of carbs, so I’ve always allowed myself to include those. Creative substitution is your friend; for example, breakfast can be low-cholesterol egg substitutes and turkey bacon.
Atkins makes a line snack bars and desserts for when you’re craving sweets; I wouldn’t be able to do it otherwise.
Take it from someone who has done this too many times for it to be healthy. Drink a lot of water and keep it down to less than five hundred calories per day and avoid all salt. You’ll lose 6-10 pounds by Saturday.
A word of warning. Don’t pig out at the wedding because your system will rebel (if you know what I mean).
Atkins will take longer than Saturday (you need to get into induction and it does take a few days) and may not initially hit the areas you need it to, while a seamstress never misses!
What Foxy40 said, essentially, but no processed foods either, on account of they sneak salt into them. (Think fruits & raw veggies.) A short-term solution only, but it’s worked for me.
Above all, avoid salt. It is amazing. I recently came back from a trip in which I had been eating badly, including too much salt. I was startled to discover I had gained 10 lb. I went without salt for a week and, with no other change in my diet, lost 11 lb. And spent a couple days peeing every couple hours. My doctor warns me that this is hard on my kidneys (the salt, not its omission). And I think it helps to drink a fair amount of water (although not this 8 glasses a day that some recommend).
I seriously doubt any of these extreme crash diets people are recommending will take two centimetres off the OP’s wasteline. It’s fat he’s trying to lose, not just pounds, and you can’t lose that much fat in a week unless it is surgically removed. I go with “hire a tux”.
