Shedd's Spread -- can it grow mold?

I had this huge tub of Shedd’s Spread margarine.

It was at room temperature for a week while the fridge was awaiting repair.

But, I figured, that’s okay, because my in-laws used to keep their Shedd’s Spread on the counter, at room temperature, constantly.

It’s got little green spots in it. More of a bright, neon-ish green, though, not like any mold I’ve ever seen before.

Or rather, it had. I threw it out today.

But for future reference, can this chemical smorgasbord actually grow mold?

I’m sure it can. Even Twinkies rot (they have a rather proscribed shelf life, in fact), as will hot dogs and unsealed spam and everything but something that’s totally dehydrated and/or sterilized. So pure, all natural, 100% pure honey will last eons longer than any manmade confection short of a dehydrated MRE or something similar.

It’s possible, but it’s more likely that it was mold growing on little bread crumbs that got left behind, or something along those lines.
