Sheik in Chains Outside Court

I am not quite sure where to place this or what to make of it.

Link.

"A Sydney man accused of sending harassing letters to families of dead soldiers has chained himself to a railing outside a court and is holding an Australian flag above his head.

Earlier today Man Monis, 45, who also uses the name Sheik Haron, faced Downing Centre Local Court charged with seven counts of using a postal service to harass."

Seemingly he sent offensive letters to family members of the Australian military who have died in action in Afghanistan, accusing them of being murderers.

I note that the paper does not say he is a sheik or have any religious leaning.

Whatever, I think it is a pretty low act (the sending of the letters).

Eh. He’s not wrong - we’re an occupying force in a place we have no right to be. We are, after all, the bad guys in this war.

That said, he’s a crazy person who has been known to the authorities for some time now. Basically a moderately harmless nutjob who likes attention.

So this guy is like the Australian version of Westboro Baptist Church or something?

If the Westboro Baptist Church was one guy, and was fighting the issue in a forum related to the one that the issue he was fighting, and only did it once?

Yeah, kinda.

More correctly, he’s probably just a guy who’s not quite crazy enough to be locked away, but who really likes the spotlight. See “Hoare, Matthew” for related readings.
