What part of “I would be HAPPY working for 25K a year” did you miss? No sarcasm implied. I. Would. Be. HAPPY.
And no, I do not have a choice about my salary. It is fixed by the state which is having a serious budget problem right now. I do not have the experience, degree, or money to get a degree to demand more money.
I didn’t miss any part of your comment about being happy to work for $25K. I also didn’t miss it when you later said, “I don’t get a choice as to what my salary would be.” Yes, you do have a choice in your salary. You can choose some other profession besides teaching for the State of NC. Or are you locked into that particular field for some reason?
But that’s neither here nor there. You sound like you want to teach, so I’m sure it will all work out for you.
Yes. I want to teach. I have a degree in it. I cannot afford to move from NC and, due to family health problems, I do not want to. <snark>Is there anything else you wanted to know? Should I post my transcript? Blood type? Birth certificate?<snark>
Thank you. That’s what they keep telling me. Maybe with all the Reservists getting shipped out, I might be able to get something for next year.
Now there’s a reliable chain of information! It also flies in the face of everything I’ve ever read about Chelsea outside the tabloids or the occasional unscrupulous right-wing rag. (I’ve read quite a bit, as I’ve been in love with her for some time now.)
Yes, I did see pictures of her on some tabloid covers being carried around by her friends drunk as a lemur. This is why I thank whatever Gods might be listening that no one was following me around in college with a camera.
Probably for the same reason your reading comprehension and sarcasm detecting skills have taken a break during the course of this thread, much like fashion sense during the 1970s.
Well, I understood what you said, but it was clear that you were just taking a shot at her because she’s a) more successful than you, or b) got the job that you wish you could have.
If you really WANTED to be a teacher, then who the fuck cares what she looks like? (And, for the record, I think she’s quite attractive).
Guess what, bucko, you misunderstood. Why in the world would I want to have her job? I pity her, really. She’ll never have a normal life. She’ll always be followed around by Secret Service agents and people will always judge her (right or wrong) by her father’s actions. I don’t count having a lot of money or name recognition a success. Maybe for some people it is (obviously you think it is), but I’d be happy with a house out in the country with my pets and a large plot of land for a decent-sized garden.
I wasn’t “taking a shot” at her as you implied, I was taking a shot at the fact that she got hired right out of college (now that I think of it, has she graduated yet? I can’t remember?) while I and almost everybody else I know did not. While I don’t doubt she has the skills her new job requires (since I don’t have any proof that she doesn’t), I wager that a large reason that she was hired so quickly is because she’s a Clinton. That’s certainly why valuable news space was taken up with the announcement of her hiring.
If you really WANTED to make a point, you might want to look up the phrase “non sequitur” and see how this applies to the two unrelated points you are trying to make. Or would Latin be too hard for your poor wittle bwain?
Point taken. I just meant that people I’ve met who know Ms. Clinton, work with her, study the same subject, hang out with her, and/or live around her believe she’s not doing the work she should be, while the press (who only see her at interviews, I presume/I should hope (for her sake)) may have a different impression. But yes, I’ve only met her once or twice and don’t know her personally, and frankly don’t give a damn how much effort she puts into her work or what anyone thinks of her. I was just stating the most common opinion I’ve heard here, I have no personal opinion on her character at all. Sorry if I’ve offended you or anyone else.
Spazcat, you almost make sense now, but if you didn’t want Chelsea’s job, why the “Hire me!”?!? And are you really surprized that people with masters degrees in international buisiness majors from Oxford who want to work in NY are more likely to find a well-paying job after college than teachers who won’t leave NC?
Toffe, we’re asking you the wrong question. What kind of offers are the other people in Chelsea’s graduating class getting?
Okay, I see that I will have to use small words to explain myself to you people.
The “hire me!” statement was me making a joking comment. Apparently you people need smileys in order to comprehend simple statements. Either that or the Dave Barry Captioning System for the Humor-Impaired.
If you read my last post, you will see that I am not at all jealous of her hiring. I’m sure she deserves it. I wish her all the best. I am not at all surprised that she is making that much money. Each job has its own pay scale, and it is a well-known fact that almost every single job in this country pays better than teaching.
I never said I “won’t” leave NC. If you read a post I made a while back, you will see that I “choose not” to leave this state for the reasons stated. If you people actually read all the posts made by a particular poster in a particular thread, you might not come out looking like an idiot who just looked at the last post and based all your judgements on that.
In short, I was poking fun at the OP. Apparently it was too subtle for some of you. Feel that breeze? That would be a whoosh.
Any “fortune 100” firm that would listen to what a 23-year-old without a shred of actual business experience “has to say” is looking to lose money. Honest to Christ, what does Chelsea Clinton have to teach a manager with 20 years of industry experience? How to pick up guys at a kegger?
It’s great for her that she got such a sweet job - and sure, it likely has to do with her name - but really, it’s comical to think someone whose knowledge of the business world consists of the campus-level supply and demand functions of keg party tickets has consulting value to a real company.
Somehow I suspect the “Fortune 100” companies would prefer to listen to real consultants who know something, and I think Ms. Clinton will be a taskworker for said consultants. If you sent a 23-year-old consultant to an important client, they’d fire you in ten seconds.
Of course not! In my culture, we toast new brides with joyous chants of “Skank ho! Skank ho!” Then the maid of honor insults the bride’s use of cosmetics, blows the best man, and dessert is served.
Now granted, I have let my subscriptions to the Enquirer, Star and National Examiner lapse , and my newsstands do not carry News of the World or other fine UK publications, but when the hell has Chelsea Clinton ever been seen in ill-applied mascara?
This isn’t fortune 100 companies, but the top law firms in Chicago, such as Sidley & Austin, Kirkland & Ellis or Wildman Allan pay their starting associates about $110,000 a year.
Granted, the get the creme of the crop, and the hours are absolutely grueling, but these are ofter 24 year olds who know nothing other than what the ivory tower teachers have taught them. It’s not that common.
I have no idea of exactly what this company does. I have a sneaking suspicion that I will never have occasion to buy whatever it is they sell.
However, those who know this sort of thing tell me that this is a tough, tough job, and one where they won’t give a rat’s ass who Chelsea’s parents are if she doesn’t produce results post-haste. And while it apparently carries some prestige in the world of management consulting, I wouldn’t call it a glamorous job.
Consider also that Chelsea could make a hundred large a year with a tiny handful of speaking engagements on whatever subject she chose. A tell-all book on life with her parents would be worth a blank check. Hell, for that matter, it isn’t like her family is broke; she could sponge off of them in perpetuity if she wanted to.
So it’s hard not to admire her for accepting a challenging gig like this one.
Bing bing bing! Like many grads from prestigious schools, Ms Clinton will likely spend her formative employment years as a highly paid information pack mule. BTW, if she were a nameless Ivy League law school grad and was hired to research turnip-twaddler patent issues for $100K, would anyone think she was overpaid? Hell no! Seems like she’s just enjoying the benefits of capitalism-being paid what the market will bear.
Either that, or, perhaps, we would be better able to judge it as a joke if it was at all funny. [ALF]“Hire Me! Ha! I kill me!”[/ALF] Apparently, people with Senses of Humer can tell that saying “I would be happy making $25k” isn’t being sarcastic, while “Hire me!” is a Letterman-worthy joke.
You say this, but if it was true, then why the hell are you even posting in the thread? If the whole “hire me” spiel was a pathetic attempt at humor, then we’re left with your whole first point being:
You’d be happy with $25K. But, apparently, you mention this as a complete n.s. to the thread, because you don’t care how much Chelsea’s making.
Chelsea can’t put on makeup. Wow. What an amazingly insightful comment. Doesn’t sound like you’re jealous at all.
Maybe you’ve convinced yourself that you’re not jealous, and maybe you aren’t anymore after you thought about her whole situation, but you originally posted with the green-eyed monster looking over your shoulder, egging you on.
Perhaps you should try reading all of your own posts, so that you have more insight into why we’re all confused as to your motives:
What people were trying to tell you, before and after you went batshit on them, is that you DO have a choice as to what your salary is, but you CHOOSE NOT to take the action to get a bigger payday. You CHOOSE to live in a state that isn’t paying teachers shit. In other words, the people that you’re treating like shit in your responses were trying to point out that your financial troubles could be alleviated by, potentially, moving to a state that cared more about education than NC. And you responded like a whiny, snot-nosed, runny-assed crybaby.
I am unable to parse this paragraph properly. Are you implying that there exist some consultants who actually know something? This contradicts everything I’ve seen in Sillicon Valley for the past 6 years.
