Shield Volcanoes

Summarizing a lot of onlinw siaxuaaion volcanoescome in aspectrum of shapes ranging from stratovolcanoes, with highly viscous nagna peoducing a steep Fijo=style cone confining gases which lead ro relatively infrequent volent eruptios, e.g. Vesuvius, Sainr Helens, or Krakataol to shield volcanoes with very gentle slopes and highly liquid magma leading to frequent and/or continuous eruptions, The example always given are the Hawaiian chain, on Earth; the second example are the great volcanoes of Mars’s Tharsis Ridge. What other shield volcanoes are there?

Wikipedia says the Galápagos, Iceland, and the East African Rift are home to shield volcanoes.

OP, I don’t know what you wrote your post with, but damn… I found it hard to understand it at times (and I still don’t know what “siaxuaaion” means).

In any case, to answer your question: There are more shield volcanoes on Earth apart from the Hawaiian chain; a list of the most important ones appears here. There appears that, apart from the Earth and Mars, there may be shield volcanoes also on Venus (and there are hints that some of them might still be active).

EDIT: Damn, ninjaed ^.^

Nitpick> The possessive case of Mars is Mars’ (no final s)

Honesty, the OP contains "nlinw siaxuaaion volcanoescome " and you nitpick the Mars’s bit?

And, so I feel like I’m contributing - Lunar domes

My hope is that he’s writing on a mobile device without proofreading, and/or with autocorrect turned off, because otherwise the OP concerns me considering Poly’s typically erudite posting style.

Maybe there was an eruption, and he didn’t have time to type “Need answer fast!”

Nitpick> You’re wrong. Either is OK.

Yeah it’s kind of hard to type on your iPhone from the back of a jeep flying down a dirt road trying to outrun a pyroclastic flow.

Need answer fast!

Wins the thread!

He hasn’t replied so as his location says, perhaps he is in a better place. Besides a jeep can’t outrun pyroclastic flow whether he is posting or not.

Actually, “Mars’s” is correct (following Strunk and White). If the word is singular (or a proper noun), you used “'s” to form possessive; if the word is plural, you just use an apostrophe.

Depends on how much of a head start he has, surely.

Denial, bargaining etc. All stages of grief. But I think we need to accept that our dear friend may be gone. And before we start fighting over who gets his jeep, I’m pretty sure it’s gone too.

Rather a pretty shield volcano off the coast of Auckland New Zealand.
Rangitoto
It last erupted a few hundred years ago.
It should be noted that the Auckland volcanic field is rather unusual by world standards and that Rangitoto is something of an odd cone in the Auckland field. So it wouldn’t be wise to call it a typical shield volcano in terms of its behaviour. It does have the classic characteristic shape though.

VERY fast!
