Shifting into 1st & 3rd feel mushy?

When I put my 1989 5 speed manual transmission Toyota truck into first gear, it feels kinda mushy, same with 3rd. I can get the truck into these gears, but I have to make an effort to do so. Second, fourth and fifth feel normal.

Please tell me some good news about how this is only a minor problem.

Your shifter bushings have most likely worn out, and it should not be a tough or expensive fix for that vehicle.
