shoes for flat feet?

I’ve always had flat feet–absolutely no arches whatsoever. I’ve always had a hard time finding shoes that were comfortable, but as I get older, it gets worse, and my feet get sore easily. It seems every sneaker out there has arches. Anyone know of any brand of shoes that are made for weirdo feet like mine?

I got flat feet too. I get by. I just kinda squash the padding in all my shoes down. It’s probably bad for me, but I can’t afford a podiatrist. If you can, i’d suggest you go see one. I believe they make inserts for people like us.

Z-Coils do it for me. They look funny, but they have taken 95% of my foot pain away.

Thanks for the replies. PICU, another fellow nurse recommended ZCoils to me a few days ago too. I’ll look into it, though they would probably make me feel and look like Tigger!

I have flat feet too. I find that the best sneakers for me are New Balance because they have very wide widths. For dress shoes I love Deer Stag brand (I have three pairs because they fit so well but I could only find them at DSW and did not want this style to disappear before I needed some more).

I would second the advice about going to see a podiatrist if you can afford it or if it is available on your insurance. I had foot pain for a couple of months and went to see one who proscribed some hard inserts. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to them, but my foot pain is almost totally gone. He also advised me never to walk around barefoot, which was a pain in the butt at first, but I have got used to that too.

I hope this helps.

Rick

I have the opposite problem, freakishly high arches.

I wear down the outside of the soles in days, and all my shoes need re-heeled regularly.
On top of that I can’t wear mules or thongs with a heel, as I need straps to keep my foot in the shoe.

Anyone got ideas?

Up until now, I’ve worn Adidas Supernovas for running (no arch feeling - I can’t stand having the arch in there)…but the last time I bought shoes, I ended up with a pair of Brooks Addictions. Who knew?

Absolutely the best thing you can do for yourself is go out and get some shoes hand-made for you. You will not regret it. I’ve got flattish feet, but I have hand-made shoes because my feet are very long and very narrow. The only downsides are the cost- I paid £275 for a pair of office shoes and £400 for a pair of boots - and the fact that you’ll be hard put to go back to normal shoes.
