And the mistaken photo publishing and linking to Facebook profiles of guys who are not the shooter but happen to have the same name as the shooter has begun. Hooray.

I never thought of this, but I did a quick Google search on the reported name. There are people posting various picture of A Ryan Lanza, not necessarily THE Ryan Lanza, asking “Is this him?!?”
Maybe I wasn’t clear, but the question was of whether, in a moderator’s opinion, that was OK to say in this thread. Get back to me when you become a SDMB moderator.
It’s been discussed earlier in the thread. The guy apparently killed his father at home, went to the school where his mother works, and shot up her classroom and killed her. The second suspect who was arrested is apparently the shooter’s younger brother.
Maybe true, but there’s no way on earth to stop it. I would guess almost every one of us is actively looking for latest updates, and we’re allegedly smarter than average. And Og knows what kind of whacky conspiracy theories would crop up if news agencies decided to “lock down” their coverage.
I mentioned it back in post 52… NBC said a body had been found in the shooter’s home, but at the time would not (or could not) say if it was his mother or father, but implied it was a parent. Obviously, it was not his mother, as they are now saying his mother was killed at the school. I haven’t heard anymore updates, other than “a family member” was found shot to death in the family home.
Utterly crazy and murderous, given the right situation, I can kind of understand. But the point at which young kindergarten students stop looking like innocents to be protected, and instead look like targets, goes far beyond that. It boggles the mind.
This is a total guess, but maybe it will end up being some kind of bizarre jealousy thing. Maybe he hated them because Mommy was paying more attention to them than to him.
