New carts at Meijer! Coincides with the store “refresh”. I like the change but they put the Pet aisle far opposite corner from groceries.
Ok I checked out the new carts for dangle bits. Nope nada nein no such apparatus on these carts.
Oooooh! multi-story grocery stores! Fancy!
I suspect this is going to be more common in a dense urban area, where two floors are needed for a supermarket or department store like Target.
Or when the store and parking entrance are on different levels, as with this Harris Teeter.
As I suggested, that seems to be a dense urban area, where there isn’t the space available for acreage of parking lots at the same level as the store.

The Target with the cart escalator I mentioned above is itself two floors with clothing down and housewares/groc up. This is/was pretty common in traditional mall department stores (JCP, Kohls, Macy, etc) but they didn’t need to worry about carts.
I get the impression keeping kids off the cart escalator is a challenge.
