Why was the Shopping Channel Snark Glossary stickied in CS?
It doesn’t seem like the sort of thing that needs to be stickied. I have only slightly perused the thread, but it seems (perhaps wrongly) that most of the participants are the actual refugees.
Other Dopers who have been here longer are joining in the thread. Rather than everybody asking for definitions all of the time, it was decided it’s easier to make the glossary sticky so people can refer to it easily. So it’s not just for the newcomers.
Ok, I was just curious. It seems like an odd thing that doesn’t occur very often, so when they did it for this it stood out.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to include/merge it in the 1st page of the actual thread?
Maybe edit in a link to the first post with a comment “some glossary of terms in this thread to assist newcomers to the topic”. Leave the sticky a week or two, then desticky.
I stuck it – didn’t seem like a big deal to me. We have a similar thread in MPSIMS for the MMP threads.
Can’t insert it into the first page of the thread – posts are date-stamped, and I’m not going to muck with date stamps. (This is why merged threads can be a wee bit confusing sometimes – ordering is done strictly by time of posts, whichever thread the post was originally made in.)
Frankly, I don’t think most people look at the stickied threads unless there’s a new post in one of them – I don’t, anyway.
Short answer: I don’t think it’s a problem, so I don’t think it needs a solution.
I’m wondering if the first post in that other thread could be edited to include the glossary. It might not be a big problem, but it seems like that’d be more efficient both for the folks in that thread and for folks not in that thread alike. But either way, no big.

Yeah, you’re correct that we don’t do it often, but it’s not unprecedented. Sorry if I came across as defensive.
