Short stories turned into novels?

I’ve been to ten Worldcons. They were held in four different countries. I didn’t go to my first Worldcon until I was 31. Until I was 29, there was no way I could have gone to one unless it was next door to where I was living, since I was too broke to do much of anything before then.

It didn’t occur to me to go to one until one was held very close to where I live, sadly.

No kidding. That was the last one I attended. I also made it to New Orleans in '88 and San Francisco in '93.

I’m so old that I don’t remember whether or not I attended a specific worldcon. That’s not even funny. I do know I went to StLouiscon in 1969, my first con ever. We shared the hotel with a Young Americans for Freedom convention. Nobody needed ribbons to know who was attending which.

I think the count is 14 since, but it could be 15 or 16. I know I went to some cities but if they had multiple worldcons I can’t remember which. Wait. Denver in 2008. I know I was there and forgot to include it.

I also went to some NorthAmericons, which are the official U.S. cons when the worldcon is not held in North America. They should count.

The only reason I can easily look up which Worldcons I’ve attended is that I keep the program books from all conventions I attend and make a note in a file I have of which conventions I have the program books from. There are two reasons I choose to go to a convention. Either they are local ones that I can easily drive to and thus can come home each day or else they are ones I can build a vacation around.

We can do it at next year’s North American Science Fiction Convention (NASFiC) in Buffalo.

And now we have met at least

Yes. We had.a regular dopefest.

Me, too!
