Short warm weather vacation location from Boston in December

My fiancee and I are looking for a quick post-wedding getaway to someplace that’s easy to get to and warm for a 3-4 day relaxing vacation. We’re getting married between Christmas and New Years and she needs to get back before school starts (she’s a teacher) in early January so we only have a few days.

I’m thinking of a beach resort/spa in Bermuda or the Bahamas, but I’m not sure what the weather is like then. Any suggestions or recommendations? Places that have non-stop flights from Boston are a plus but not an absolute requirement.

You’d get off-season rates in Ft. Walton/Destin/Pensacola area, and have a decent shot at temperatures of 70+.

Might not want to try New Orleans if the Saints are hosting playoff games, but lots to do there.

It’s not really all that warm in winter, either. We were out of town for the last week of December one year and came home to frozen pipes!

I was around Houston for the last week of December a couple of years ago. Highs in the 70s all week.

Are you set on one of the Islands off the coast? Or is domestic travel in play?

South Florida often has beautiful weather around then. I’ve gone to many outdoor New Years Eve parties in shorts and a t-shirt.
We have beaches, bars, non-stop flights, and no need to go through customs.

Bermuda won’t be exceptionally warm. We went at Christmastime, and it was spring-like weather, chilly and sunny, but not really beach weather. It was beautiful and we loved it, but it depends on how warm you’re looking for.

Domestic travel is certainly OK as well. Last night we were discussing a trip to south Florida or somewhere on the Gulf Coast because it probably would be simpler. I was just checking on Travelocity and flights to places like Pensacola are about the same as a flight to Bermuda. My folks are in West Palm so we’ve been there a few times. Maybe flying to Miami and spending a few days on the Keys somewhere.

The weather charts say average highs of 70 in Bermuda, so I’m not sure if that really meets our criteria. I’ll check with my better half and see if we really want warmer than that.

If you do decide on S. Florida, feel free to ping me. There are a handful of us in Broward, Miami, and the Keys on the board here. Not sure what our West Coast of Florida representation is. The Naples/Sanibel Island area is typically more laid back, but can be very beautiful as well.

I’ll be at Sanibel later in the summer. Can’t wait!

I’ve been to Sanibel and the Keys a few times; we know the South Florida area pretty well. I was thinking of something slightly more far afield but I’m not sure we need that after the wedding. We’re really just looking for a place to relax and chill for a few days.

I know that JetBlue flies between Boston and the Caribbean direct. Other airlines may have direct flights to the Caribbean as well. If you need to avoid passport stuff, the US Virgin Islands would fit the bill.

If you want to go to the Caribbean, Puerto Rico could be an option. It looks like JetBlue offers a straight flight from Logan to San Juan-LMM. No passports or visas needed for Americans, but bring a Spanish phrasebook instead, especially if you’re planning to leave San Juan for a small town or rural area. The weather is tropical year round.

I hadn’t thought of PR, doing a quick search on Travelocity it looks like the price and flights would fit our needs, and neither of us have been there. I’m going to explore that a bit more.

I’ve done the flight from Boston to PR (on my way to the BVI) on JetBlue a couple times and it’s a pretty quick and easy trip. JetBlue is the best airline out of Boston, IMO.
