Given that this zombie thread is quite old, having died and been revived twice, and given that the OP actually went on to get himself banned, I doubt that your message will have much of an impact on him.
(This is why we used to routinely close zombie threads.)
I believe if you’re going to have nanny states, and ban things like smoking in bars, then people have no business drinking anywhere but home. Nobody has ever died from smoke in a bar, but lots of people have died from drinking in bars, like car accidents, fights, etc.

Yes it should be a crime. Note that my father got a DUI once and he never drank ever in his life after that night. Also note that my uncle and aunt died; leaving behind a 3 year old by himself because someone was drinking and driving and they were unlucky.
And I will explain this as intelligently as possible by using simple comparisons.
-There are a lot of drivers in this world.
-A LOT of drivers in America at the very least are terrible drivers or simply do not care about being an ass.
-A lot of SOBER drivers cause harm to other drivers because they were stupid or they were being an ass.
-Drinking prevents you from the ability to walk straight.
-If drinking makes you fail to walk straight, what makes you think they can drive a car?
People don’t understand this because it’s so common… cars are one of the more dangerous commonly used weapons; primarily because you can kill or hurt dozens of people in a single second. Going 20 mph straight into a person can seriously injure them as well. Use common sense and you will understand why drinking and driving should be and rightfully is a crime.
This is an argument a 6 year old can wrap up in a short sentence.
