I’m not sure if I should write a complaint letter or not.
One of my tires seems to have a slow leak. I went to a major department store in a mall to get new tires. I’m not going to name the store but it rhymes with rears and they were recently bought by a company sounding like jay-mart.
The Auto tech looks at my tires, pokes and prods them and tells me I have dry rot. That was funny to me because there are no cracks. Yes I have some uneven wear and the tread is getting low after 82K miles but I saw no signs of dry rot, but I figured what the hey let them replace all the tires since I will have to soon anyway.
Unfortunate for them they didn’t have any tires for my Aztek on hand so I had to leave. I decided to stop at another place that sells many brands of tires. I believe the place rhymes with woodlear. I tell the counter guy that I think I have a slow leak in one tire.
He comes out pokes and prods it saying nothing about dry rot and says they will look at the tire. I ask him about my tread and he looks at the tires, then confirms I still have life in them but some areas are choppy.
I go in and answer some questions about my car. I don’t recall him telling me a price but he tells me to give him my keys. I sit and wait and then am called back up.
They tell me they had to put a patch on the tire because the plug or patch that was on it was leaking and because it took longer or something they charged more than they quoted. I signed the bill gave them a credit card and went on my way about $34 more in debt.
The reason I want to complain is because if I had been told that it would be one third the price of a new tire to fix I would have replaced the tires. Also I was jiust looking for confirmation of a leak and did not know I was authorising repairs. If you were complainging how would you phrase it and who would you write to?
a) the place doing the repair
b) the state consumer protection agency
c) the local trouble shooter coumn in your local paper
d) all off the above
e) none of the above
