I forgot to mention - her name is Tracewinds Nakota. She’s on the ATA registry.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am (almost) as excited as if I bought her! Can’t wait to see more pics of her! What’s her name?
Wow! Cangratulations!
Brynda - See? if we’d gone to the movies today, I wouldn’t be $1500 poorer. It’s all your fault!
PapSett - Her name is Nakota.

WOOT! CONGRATULATIONS!
You MUST take and post pictures ASAP, I really want to see her squared up, or at least with her head up so I can see her shoulder properly. But even in that sale photo she’s simply lovely.
Also, you MUST ride her when she’s settled in and tell us all about it.
Whoa Nellie! I Googled her name, and [look what I found!](http://pets.webshots.com/photo/1048017721000566714LQiRmQ) Good gravy but she's gorgeous.
[And there's more!](http://home.att.net/~heavensgatefarm/dramatic_flair.htm) My dear, you have acquired *royalty*.
[And more -- with her Friesian-sired baby!](http://www.warmbloods-for-sale.com/HorseDetail.asp?HorseID=14197&UserID=1388)
Time to start researching studs. :D
Forgot to add: You got her for $1,500? Even at her age, that is a steal.
OMG… she’s spectacular! Just lovely! envy
Nah… couldn’t happen to a nicer gal! ENJOY HER!!
When do you get her home?
I know very little about horses, but my oh my she is beautiful and I was going to say, “Yes! Get her while you can!” but I see you already have.
(bolding added)
I have no idea why they would say that.
Congratulations! Time to pick out a stallion, eh? Can we help? Please? This can be the official SDMB 2011 Foal!
Horsetech - Well, there’s no way I can afford a $5-10,000 stud fee, but you can make all the matches you want.

She’s absolutely beautiful, St Germain! Here’s to a long and healthy partnership with Nakota.
I really liked the Friesian cross foal… Of course, I have a real soft spot for the fuzzies. Would you be interestred in breeding her to a Friesian at all? A Thoroughbred might be nice too… what would you be interested in using the foal for? Resale? Dressage? A hunter/jumper? Trail horse?
What about a Thoroughbred stallion? Might there be one whose conformation would make a really nice baby with her, but whose stud fee would be well below the Warmblood range? If you found the right nick, you could still get a foal that would pass inspection for registering as a Warmblood, maybe? I notice Nakota’s babies that I found qualified for registration in more than one of the European registries, so you’d have somewhat of a choice.
Or maybe not; upon research, I see that the stallion would have to have been qualified by inspection for whatever registry you’d present the foal to in before you bred her to him. So the stud fees would probably be right up there too – not as high as a European import, but still considerable. Then there’s the cost of the foal’s inspection itself, not to mention the vet fees and so forth of getting the baby in the first place…
If you don’t care about registering the foal with one of the Warmblood registries but just want a gorgeous baby out of your gorgeous mare, then that could drop the cost quite a bit, of course.
ETA: Well, PapSett, you’re way ahead of me! Or a minute ahead of me, anyway.
Speaking of Friesian crosses, if you were thinking of selling the foal, that might be the way to go, even without Warmblood registration; Friesians are hot hot hot among a certain segment of the dressage world, I’ve noticed.
ETA: Holy guacamole, look at the prices for these TB/Warmblood crosses! No doubt they’ve got a certain level of training and performance in them to ask for that much, but still!
Damn, missed the edit window for:
ETAx2: Hey, look at these Frieisan stud fees – in the hundreds, not thousands!
That Zorro – he’s only $700 and registered FPS, AWS, FSHR. Bente D is there – only $400! and registered FSHR, FHANA, HF. We already know what a great cross Bente D is on Nakota.
You people are truly evil. It actually makes sense to breed her, since her riding career won’t last forever, and she does throw some mighty beautiful babies.
I called the vet. Although he remembers the mare, her was basically doing maternity care for her, and hadn’t seen her out of her stall. I’ve asked him to go out and do a regular soundness check. Provided that comes back okay, I should have her at my place within the week.

I hoipe you think, long, long and hard before you breed in this market. Do you have the time, the skills and the money to bring up baby to be a productive equine citizen? Breeding is by far the most expensive and riskiest way to acquire a nice young horse. Have you ever started babies? Backed a horse for the first time? If no, can you afford a trainer who has done these things?
I don’t mean to be a downer, but its so easy to get caught up in the idea of pretty babies. There are so many lovely rideable horses out there that need a home right now.
From that same link where you saw high dollar horses, this lovely mare someone is basically just giving away.
Hello Again - I bred my first trakehner mare to a TB stud. She developed melanoma and died two weeks before we were going to deliver the baby by C-section. When I lost both the mare and foal, I bought a yearling TB colt and raised and trained him myself. Here’s a picture of Irish.
Economically, I can afford another horse okay. I don’t find it terribly expensive, since they live on my place. In Tennessee, any way, feed and grain are pretty inexpensive. I give my own shots, and farrier bills are my big expense. Horses, like all dependants (livestock, children, dogs) can run into as much money as you want to put into them.
I’m not set on breeding this mare. But I will admit that having a world-class warmblood is pretty appealing.
StG
I don’t disagree with your general sentiment, but “make me an offer” does not equal free. (And she is a lovely mare.)
We’re moving back to the States soon and I’ve been looking at horses, and while I’ve seen a few free lease ponies, there does still seem to be a market for a good horse. I don’t think breeding this fabulous mare would be a bad thing at all, especially if StGermain has the resources to raise the foal, which it sounds like she does.
Honestly… I cannot think of anyone I would RATHER see breed a foal. StG is the most responsible animal owner I have ever met; anyone that sees an animal as a life-long responsibility is doing it right.
Breeding this mare is not glutting the market with a foal that would end up on a double-decker headed for a slaughter house in Canada or Mexico. This is the exact type of mare that SHOULD be bred.
Still waiting patiently for an update, and looking forward to hearing all about Nakota!
