Should I deadhead my geraniums?

I looks like new blossoms come out of the cluster of dead blossoms, so I’m not sure whether just to sort of tap the cluster of dead blossoms so as to knock off the unsightly dead petals or to pinch off the whole dead cluster (head)?

Anyone out there love geraniums like I do? The acrid smell of the leaves-- though not a pretty, floral scent-- takes me right back to my earliest childhood in southern California where these flowers were everywhere.

Geraniums (pelargoniums) do not produce flowers from the dead flower cluster, so it’s OK to to deadhead, which improves the appearance of the plants.

The other major reason to deadhead (eliminate seed production) doesn’t seem to be a factor with geranium hybrids, which rarely produce seed in my experience.

I always deadhead my geraniums which seems to allow the plant to put more energy into new flowers and growth for a constantly blooming plant.

Thanks! I did it.

The cluster of flowers start blooming on the outside and as they die the ones closer to the center open. Sometimes you can remove the outer dead ones to make the still growing and expanding center ones look better. Eventually the last few of the center most flowers are all that’s left and that’s it. Pick off the cluster when it doesn’t look good anymore.

EEK! Seemingly overnight the leaves of two of my potted geranium plants have turned yellow. Mayday-mayday!.

(Not related to deadheading question, as I haven’t deadheaded these. Just didn’t want to start a new geranium thread.)

Nutrient issue?

The last time my geraniums had yellow leaves, it was because the soil they were in wasn’t draining properly.
