I am majoring in cybersecurity and have decided I will add a minor to my program. I think doing either Fraud Examination or Small Business Management would go well with my major. Ideally, I would like to start my own security consulting company after I graduate. For that reason, I think small business is a good idea. Although, cybersecurity in the private sector is all about stopping fraud, so fraud examination would probable be helpful as well. Which is the better choice?
Management is always useful and will make you more employable outside your field. It will also help you relate to your customers.
ETA: studying management will also give you a different perspective on your work.
Seconding Quartz.
And thirded.
Adding to what Quartz said that I can see fraud being a big worry in banking and commerce, but there are other sectors where data security (as in “we don’t want people to steal our blueprints” for example) is pretty big. One of my projects was for a Defense-related company doing a research project which involved companies in three other countries: the project consisted of answering “what documents need to be sent/received/stored where, from where, when and how”. The information had to be sufficient, but at the same time security restrictions had to be complied with. Understanding the business processes involved was key.
