No. Try Marmite, the original and far superior yeast extract.
Neither are as good as Bovril though.

You definitely should!!
This shouldn’t even be a question! Of course you should try it! What’s the worst that could happen? You won’t like it? That’s no reason not to try something.
I’ll give the cream cheese and lettuce a try.
I have never been fond of avocado on sandwiches, in guacamole or just cut in chunks and with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing is fine.
And I use vegemite as a boot to the flavor of beef stews and soups.
Bolding mine
Me too! It can even make a passable gravy when added to the cornflour/water mix.
They tried marketing a pre-mixed marmite and creamcheese here a while ago. It seems to have disappeared off the shelves. I like it best with the marmite (we are currently on vegemite due to the Christchurch earthquake induced marmite shortage) on one slice of bread and the cream cheese on the other - instead of butter.
Also, marmite and ham is another yummy combo.
I find this plausible. But then, I don’t like butter.
I’ve been in Europe for the past six weeks and oh man, do I miss Vegemite… my personal fave is smearing it on toast, adding a thin slice of tasty cheese and scrambled eggs on top. Heaven.
I think Vegemite was the 2nd worst thing I’ve ever had in my mouth (the absolute worst was a bad clam, which I spit out.) I had an awful taste in my mouth for days (well, probably not really days, but it remembers like days.)
I later was told that one should spread it very very thinly on toast, rather than take a spoonful as I had. But I’ve never had the nerve to try it again.
I’ve never had Vegemite, but I assume it’s similar to Marmite? If so…:eek::eek:
Yes, they’re all in the same ballpark of flavors. Marmite is a bit sweeter and more molasses-like in consistency. I prefer Vegemite for its cleaner flavor and easier spreadability. Really, it’s no more disgusting than soy sauce, but if soy sauce on buttered bread doesn’t sound good to you, then you won’t like it. It’s pretty much a big umami and salt bomb.
