You asked how it would be done, and I gave a link to a model as to what someone said it would be like.
Another point made was to ensure parents don’t abuse them emotionally. Or try to make their kids into another version of themselves.
And of course there’s the issue of children being raised as pets, i.e. slaves. :rolleyes:
More along the lines of child autonomy and supporting them in their goals and not making them do something that you want them to. In other words parents turning their children into them

Indeed. I want my children to eat vegetables and go to school. There goals are playing video games all day long and livingon a diet of M&Ms and chips. Clearly I am being abusive and not permitting their autonomy.
Simple question Machinaforce. Do you believe that 6yo should have autonomy? How about a 10yo?
No, but I can see the point someone makes about letting kids be their own person and not another version of their parents.
The author of that link I stated clearly believes they should. Me, I’m not sure a child can fully understand what their autonomy means. They look to their parents for advice and guidance. They may have things they want to do but they don’t understand the complexity of society.
On a side note, the author also advocates dissolving the “family unit” and have society take responsibility for raising children.

I’ve not read the article, but absolutely no: that way lies eugenics. Imagine, for instance, that a Republican administration forbade Democrats from procreating.
And if someone is deemed “incapable” of being a parent, what then? Are they sterilized to make sure they never have the chance to do so? :dubious:
Well apparently according to the article they would have a chance to take test again at a later date. It also mentions inspections for five continuous days to make sure things are in order. Also giving the child once they reach 8 years old an opportunity to leave their family if they feel they aren’t being cared enough.
I would think that if we have people licenses to practice medicine then the principle could be the same. Train those psychologists in the same way we train future doctors.
Is there even an eight-year-old child anywhere on the planet who thinks s/he is receiving enough care? I highly doubt it.
Besides, where would they go? Older children are much more difficult to place, and the foster care system is just not designed to handle that kind of extra load.
I really wish people would read the link I posted as it would save me time explaining the “model” someone proposed.
But I rather doubt an eight year old can grasp what it means to care for a child enough to make the decision. Apparently they would go to someone else who would want kids.
I sure wish someone had checked up my parents ! I am still haunted by the fact that my dad put me in a roasting pan and put matches around it was starting to put me in the stove ! My mom came downstairs just in time screaming her head off ! Dad was drunk and showing off to his drunk friends who didn’t nothing and my oldest was powerless to stop this from happening !
When I had my baby I dreamt she was kidnap and she came back cut up like a chicken and been cooked ! I was freaking out and crying when I called a friend and she said I had the dream b/c of what happen to me as a baby.
My oldest sister told me what dad did and damn it still in my head 70 years later . This just one of the many things my dad did to me. Sorry for ranting like this but this thread really hit a raw nerve with me.
