Shooting murderous conspiracy theorists who are actively sabotaging attempts to control a deadly, contagious disease does not imply a lack of discipline.
But generating headline such as “US soldiers kill 40 outside Aid station” certainly is.
But it is a great way to really drive home the point that those crazy freaky foreigners with their bizarre disease really are up to no good.
The chances of the US having orders to shoot is pretty much nill, and it should be. It’s important to realize how much trauma Liberia has been through, and how recent that trauma was. People are not trusting the authorities because it was recently driven home in a very real way that the authorities would like to torture, rape and kill. The reason why people are not complying is not that they are backwards or stupid, it’s because that is what recent events have shown is the best way to stay alive. And people don’t see the West as saviors-- we weren’t saviors when they were getting killed earlier, why would we be now?
It’s a tough, complex problem that is not going to be easily resolved.
Sorry, someone attacks a US medical camp, then they get shot. Simple. It isn’t like I am recommending they wander around in the bush shooting random people. :dubious::rolleyes:
