Couple reasons probably. One would be “Hey! My recruiter lied!” stories floating around. Another would be people conflating the Army experience with the Marines (and I may be misguided on this one) who don’t guaranty going into boot camp what your job will be upon graduation. Then there’s the whole mystical and nebulous “…needs of The Army” clause.
And quite frankly, my recruiter DID get the particulars of my MOS wrong. He totally undersold the awesomeness of the life of the 98G. “Couple months in Monterey, CA.” indeed…more like 17 months of classroom time! Woo!
Yeah, Inigo, you never hear stories about how my Recruiter lied, or didn’t give me enough information, and my job and or training was better than what my Recruiter promised. 17 month of classroom training in Monterey, CA really had to be a challenge for you, what with all the waves and parties and such.
